The express train had derailed near Gonda station, between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations under the jurisdiction of the North Eastern Railway on July 18, resulting in three deaths and seven critically injured. The CPRO of North Eastern Railway, Pankaj Kumar, provided the official figures and stated that a further five individuals had simple injuries as well. Following the derailment, 4-5 coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train were overturned, prompting immediate action from the medical team and senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER.
