Vikas Divyakirti, Founder of Drishti IAS, in Controversy Over Deaths in Rau’s Coaching Institute Basement admin, July 30, 2024 Vikas Divyakirti claims that he is being targeted due to the deaths that occurred in the basement of an institute. He explained that there is a dispute between the fire department, MCD, and the institute regarding the type of certificate required for the building. The incident took place at Rau’s Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar, following heavy rains. Divyakirti stated that he had a meeting with the Delhi LG, where various stakeholders, including students and government officials, were present. He expressed frustration at the contradiction in the norms of the DDA, MCD, and Delhi Fire Department. Notably, the MCD has sealed the basements of many coaching institutes in Delhi, as part of a crackdown on “illegally run establishments.” Divyakirti acknowledged the need to seal basements but also pointed out the presence of Delhi Metro and Palika Bazar in basements. Expressing his commitment to not operate in the basement, he highlighted that he had submitted the necessary documents for NOC and expressed surprise at the recent incidents. Regarding the alleged targeting, Divyakirti explained that as a high-profile figure, he has become a convenient scapegoat. He acknowledged the students’ emotional turmoil and expressed regret for not openly supporting them. He attributed his reserved nature to not sharing his opinions and emotions publicly. He also mentioned that the tragic deaths have deeply affected him and emphasized the validity of the students’ protests. Divyakirti added that he had met with students and government officials to address the situation. He also expressed his dismay over the tragic deaths and declared his commitment to not allow any coaching institute to operate in the basement in the future. Rau's Study Circle
