Delhi UPSC Aspirant Suicide: Another UPSC Aspirant’s Death Before Delhi Basement Tragedy

A student from Maharashtra died by suicide, leaving a note explaining that she was unable to cope with the immense pressure. The incident occurred just days before three other UPSC aspirants died due to flooding in the basement of their coaching centre.

The note from the Maharashtra student, now made public, reveals the intense mental and emotional strain she experienced. She described the relentless pressure of UPSC preparation and criticized exploitative practices in private hostels and PG accommodations.

Additionally, the note expressed her despair over her inability to clear the UPSC despite her repeated attempts. A friend of the aspirant, Shweta, speaking to NDTV, mentioned that the student had given three attempts but could not clear the exam.

She also highlighted the increasing financial pressure due to rising rent in the area. Anjali’s final message was a plea for understanding and a criticism of the systemic issues affecting UPSC aspirants.

The Delhi Police have confirmed that they are investigating the case. A spokesperson stated, “We are looking into the details of the matter and examining the conditions that led to this tragic incident.”

This tragic death has brought concerns over the pressures faced by students in competitive environments to the forefront. It follows the recent deaths of three students from the same area, who got stuck in a basement after heavy rains.

Officials have reported that the absence of a drainage system and safety measures contributed to these deaths, as the basement was being used for commercial activities in violation of norms.
