HD Kumaraswamy, Union Minister, reaches out to MK Stalin regarding Mekedatu Project: Advocates harmonious coexistence.

Addressing a gathering at the launch of Mysuru Chalo Padyatra, Mr. Kumaraswamy stated that he would work towards convincing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the issues, emphasizing that they do not intend to do any injustice to Tamil Nadu. He expressed his desire to convey to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister the importance of living like brothers and questioned the extent to which the people of Karnataka would suffer dominance in the Indian federal system. Mr. Kumaraswamy highlighted that the people of Karnataka have given them strength to raise their voice in the Lok Sabha, with the aim of obtaining the rightful share of water for Karnataka.

He also mentioned seeking justice and working sincerely to resolve the issues. He indicated his intention to seek the assistance of former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who has experience as the water resources minister, and expressed the commitment to strive together. In reference to the water release to Tamil Nadu, Mr. Kumaraswamy pointed out that in July, Karnataka was due to release 30 tmc of water to Tamil Nadu, but more than 50 tmc of water has already flowed.

He highlighted the demands from Tamil Nadu farmers for the government to store the surplus water from the Mettur Dam instead of letting it flow into the sea. He also mentioned that in the previous fiscal year, 600 tmc of water had gone to Tamil Nadu from the state. Regarding the Mekedatu issue, he acknowledged it as a 125-year-old dispute and emphasized that it cannot be resolved overnight.
