Man arrested for marrying 5 women simultaneously while posing as a police officer. admin, August 3, 2024 During an investigation, the police discovered that the accused had been communicating with 49 women on a matrimonial site regarding marriage proposals. He was subsequently arrested after two women, with whom he had married, filed complaints. The police set a trap using a female officer and apprehended Satyajit Samal when he arrived to meet her. Upon searching his possessions, the police found a car, a motorcycle, Rs 2.10 lakh in cash, a pistol, ammunition, and two marriage agreement certificates. Mr. Panda, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police, revealed that during interrogation, Samal confessed to marrying the two women mentioned in the agreement document and a third woman. Of his five wives, two hailed from Odisha, while one each were from Kolkata and Delhi. The details of the fifth woman were still unknown, and three of Samal’s bank accounts were frozen. Samal, originally from Jajpur district of the state but currently residing in Bhubaneswar, targeted young widows and divorcees through matrimonial sites. He lured them by promising marriage, demanded cash and cars, and allegedly threatened them with a gun when asked for money back. Investigators discovered that he was in contact with 49 women through a matrimonial site after examining his mobile phone. The case against Samal began after a woman filed a complaint at Capital Police Station in February. According to the complaints, Samal forced one victim into a physical relationship under the guise of marriage and extorted money for a car. The other victim was allegedly coerced into giving money and a motorbike to Samal. Both women took personal loans to meet his demands. Mr. Panda noted that Samal had been living a lavish lifestyle with the defrauded money. The police anticipated that more women may come forward with complaints following the arrest. Samal had a pattern of fleeing to Dubai after cheating one woman and returning to find his next victim. Bhubaneswar
