Under the ‘One Family One Lakh’ scheme, an initial payment of Rs 25,000 has been disbursed to the bank accounts of 2,792 individuals. Specifically, 2,156 bank accounts in Kangpokpi district and 512 in Bishnupur district have received the amount, with the remainder set to be distributed soon. The chief minister also mentioned that 59,564 people have been internally displaced due to the violence. Biren Singh further explained that the cabinet had decided to prioritize giving the funds to those whose homes were entirely destroyed by fire. However, he acknowledged delays in the disbursement process, attributing them to confusion over land ownership. The ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups from the adjoining hills has resulted in over 200 casualties and left thousands homeless since May of last year.
