Live Updates: Waqf (Amendment) Bill Set to Be Introduced in Parliament Sessions Today

The monsoon session of Parliament is currently ongoing and is set to end on August 12. A bill has been proposed to rename the Waqf Act, 1995, to the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995. This bill also aims to remove Section 40 of the current law, which pertains to the powers of the Board in deciding if a property is Waqf property.

Additionally, the bill calls for a more diverse composition of the Central Waqf Council and the State Waqf Boards, ensuring the representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims in these bodies. The session of Parliament began on July 22 and will continue until August 12.
