PM Modi personally engaged with IOA President PT Usha to obtain firsthand information on the matter and to identify potential avenues for addressing the issue.

He directed PT Usha to explore all possible options to support Vinesh Phogat, including lodging a strong protest against the disqualification if necessary. Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification has dashed hopes for India’s potential medals in wrestling, particularly as she was lined up to compete in the Gold Medal match against the United States’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt. The Indian Olympic contingent revealed that Ms. Phogat exceeded the 50 kg mark, leading to her disqualification.

PM Modi also expressed his support for the wrestler on Twitter, lauding her as a champion among champions and an inspiration for all Indians. Although he acknowledged the setback, he expressed confidence in her resilience and encouraged her to come back stronger, emphasizing that the nation stands firmly behind her.
