Security Forces Engage in Encounter with Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur admin, August 6, 2024 Udhampur is a mountainous district within the Jammu division where an encounter between security forces and terrorists recently occurred in the Basantgarh area. Upon receiving specific information about movement in the area, a Search and Destroy Operation (SADO) was initiated in the early hours by security forces. The DIG, Udhampur-Reasi, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, confirmed the establishment of contact with a group of terrorists in the Khaned area of PS Basantgarh and reported that operations are ongoing. In an effort to eliminate terrorism from the hilly districts of the Jammu division, the army has deployed over 4,000 soldiers, including elite Para commandos and those trained in mountain warfare. Terrorists hiding in the dense forests of these districts have been responsible for hit-and-run attacks against the army, paramilitary forces, and civilians. This prompted a revision of the entire anti-terrorism strategy at high-level security meetings chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. As part of the efforts to address the situation, the police have detained around 40 individuals on suspicion of harboring, aiding, or acting as guides for the terrorists. Two of the detained suspects have confessed to accompanying the terrorists during ambush attacks in the Doda area. The security forces are actively conducting operations in these districts to target the terrorists, as well as their over ground workers (OGWs), sympathizers, and harbors. *Note: The headline is unchanged, and this story has not been edited by NDTV staff; it is published from a syndicated feed. * Udhampur
