Principal of Kolkata Medical College Resigns Amid Student Protests following Trainee Doctor’s Rape and Murder

Dr. Sandip Ghosh recently spoke to the media, expressing his distress over the treatment he has received on social media and denying making political statements in his name. He denied the accusations of victim blaming and stressed that he wants the accused to be punished. Dr. Ghosh also emphasized that he has been working honestly for the development of the hospital and in the interest of the patients and that he is an orthopaedic surgeon who can earn his livelihood. Earlier, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had called for Dr. Ghosh’s suspension, criticizing his response to the tragic incident and suggesting his indifference towards the victim.

Adhikari also hinted at the possibility of people close to Dr. Ghosh being involved in the incident, expressing concerns about the influence he holds in the power circle. The 31-year-old doctor’s death in a state-run hospital has led to the arrest of Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer who frequented the hospital. This incident has sparked nationwide protests by doctors.
