Border Force Kills Bangladeshi Smuggler in Retaliatory Firing admin, August 12, 2024 The BSF spotted a smuggler using night vision binoculars. When the BSF personnel were attacked by two groups of criminals, they were forced to open fire in self-defence. The smuggler, identified as Abdullah from Bangladesh’s Chapainawabganj district, was fatally shot. Initially, a BSF jawan spotted 5-6 people moving towards Bangladesh from the Indian side with headloads using passive night vision binoculars (PNVB). When he tried to intercept them, 5-6 hiding miscreants attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, leading to him firing in self-defence. Despite this, the smugglers continued moving toward the border. Another jawan rushed forward in response to the shot but was also attacked and had to fire in self-defence. The smugglers then fled deeper into Indian territory. The company commander of the Chandnichawk Border Outpost later located an injured man within the foliage, who later died in hospital. The attack took place in Rishipara, located 4.5 km inside Bangladesh from the International Border, where Abdullah had crossed the security cordon of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to smuggle out bidi leaves. According to A K Arya, DIG and spokesperson for BSF, similar attacks on BSF jawans occurred along the International Border in Murshidabad, Nadia, and North 24-Parganas districts. Despite frequent flag meetings with the BGB to alert them about the ongoing attacks and infiltration by Bangladeshi criminals, no concrete action has been taken. Arya praised the alert BSF jawans for their steadfastness in defending the nation’s borders and ensuring its security. Chandnichawk Border Outpost
