ISRO postpones launch of latest Earth Observation Satellite. New date announced. admin, August 12, 2024 The space agency, ISRO, had initially announced that the launch would take place on August 15. However, the agency did not provide a specific reason for the delay. The upcoming SSLV-D3/EOS-08 Mission is now scheduled for August 16, 2024. The launch window lasts for one hour, starting at 09:17 Hrs. IST. The launch will take place at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. This mission marks the completion of the SSLV Development Project, allowing for operational missions by the Indian industry and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). The spacecraft, built on the Microsat/IMS-1 bus, will carry three payloads: Electro Optical Infrared Payload (EOIR), Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry payload (GNSS-R), and SiC UV Dosimeter. EOS-08 has a mission life of one year and weighs approximately 175.5 kg, generating around 420 W of power. It will interface with the SSLV-D3/IBL-358 launch vehicle, according to ISRO. The GNSS-R payload will demonstrate the capability of using GNSS-R-based remote sensing for various applications, such as ocean surface wind analysis, soil moisture assessment, and cryosphere studies over the Himalayan region. Additionally, the SiC UV Dosimeter will monitor UV irradiance at the viewport of the Crew Module in the Gaganyaan Mission and serve as a high-dose alarm sensor for gamma radiation. The satellite also includes various key components for onboard technology demonstration such as a structural panel embedded with PCB, an embedded battery, a Micro-DGA (Dual Gimbal Antenna), an M-PAA (Phased Array Antenna), and a flexible solar panel.
