Did a Mob Vandalize the Crime Scene in the Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case at RG Kar Medical College?

The Kolkata Police responded to reports that the fourth floor room, where the crime took place, had been vandalized. In a post on X, they stated that the seminar room, the scene of the crime, was intact and had not been touched.

They cautioned against spreading unverified news and threatened legal action for spreading rumors. In the incident, vehicles were attacked, public property was damaged, and the police had to use teargas shells to disperse the mob.

Many police officers were injured in the clash. The culprits behind the violence are still unknown.

Leader of the Opposition, BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of sending Trinamool College “goons” to disrupt the apolitical protest rally near the hospital. He alleged that the police allowed the attackers to enter the hospital premises and destroy crucial evidence to prevent it from being found by the CBI.

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee condemned the hooliganism and vandalism at RG Kar, stating that it had exceeded acceptable limits. He urged the Kolkata Police Commissioner to identify and hold accountable all individuals responsible for the day’s violence within the next 24 hours, regardless of their political affiliations.

He also emphasized the fair and justified demands of the protesting doctors, calling for their safety and security to be prioritized. These comments were made in a post on X.

The CBI is now investigating the rape and murder case that has garnered national attention. The parents of the victim had filed a petition seeking a court-monitored probe to ensure that evidence is not tampered with.
