Kolkata Police Chief Accuses Media of “Malicious Campaign” After Hospital Vandalism in Doctor Rape-Murder Case.

The Kolkata Police Chief stated that the police have done everything under his command in the Kolkata rape case. He also mentioned that the main accused have been arrested and evidence has been collected.

He expressed frustration over rumors being circulated that were not based on facts and clarified that the police have been transparent and diligent in their investigation. Following a mob entering the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital campus and damaging the protest site and public property, security officials dispersed the crowd.

The driver of a vandalized police car recounted the incident, stating that the mob damaged the vehicle. CPI (M) General Secretary D Raja expressed concern over the heinous crime in Kolkata and emphasized the need for adequate security and protection for women and children, calling for action from both state and union governments.

The incident occurred on August 9 when a post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The victim’s family alleged that she had been raped and murdered, leading to nationwide protests by doctors and medical fraternities.
