Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP of Causing Unrest in Wake of Midnight Hospital Attack admin, August 15, 2024 The attackers vandalized part of the hospital and targeted the police who arrived to control the situation. The BJP and the Left have alleged that the attack was intended to destroy evidence, a claim denied by the police. Mamata Banerjee responded by accusing the Left and the BJP of wanting to create unrest in Bengal and claimed that the attackers were outsiders affiliated with the BJP and DYFI. Suvendu Adhikari of the state BJP accused Mamata Banerjee of sending TMC members to disrupt a protest rally near the hospital, alleging that the police allowed them safe passage. He also claimed that the “TMC hooligans” were unable to execute their plan effectively and revealed their identities during the vandalism. The allegation of evidence destruction has surfaced several times, including delays in allowing the woman’s parents to see her body and the renovation near the seminar hall where she was found dead. The recent incident involved the vandalism of the emergency department, nursing station, and medicine store, as well as damage to CCTV cameras and a stage where junior doctors were protesting. The police used batons and teargas shells to control the situation, resulting in 15 injured officers and nine arrests. Despite the attack on the police, Banerjee praised the police for their restraint and mentioned that some officers were found unconscious and injured. She commended the police for not losing patience and refraining from harming anyone. Bengal Politics
