Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu Housing Unit: 18,000 Women Workers and Rs 700 Crore Investment

The mega housing consists of 13 blocks with 10 floors each and has the capacity to accommodate 18,720 workers. This industrial housing facility located at the SIPCOT Vallam Vadagal industrial estate in Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram district is the first of its kind in India. The inauguration will be carried out by the chief minister and Foxconn chief Young Liu.

Tamil Nadu Minister of Industries TRB Rajaa spoke to NDTV about the project and emphasized its role in providing a safe, secure, and clean environment for the women working in the factories. The complex includes other necessary facilities such as kitchens, dining areas, 24-hour power supply, clean water, and a play area. This project has been initiated in response to protests by women workers regarding poor working conditions.

Rajaa also mentioned that more positive developments are expected as the chief minister visits the US. Furthermore, he responded to the accusations from Tamil Nadu opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami by stating, “Let him wake up first.”
