IMF’s Gita Gopinath’s College Hangout in Delhi: A Look Back at Where She Spent Hours

Gita Gopinath, the first Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), recently attended the 75th anniversary celebrations of Delhi School of Economics. During the event, she revisited her college days by spending time at the JP tea stall, a spot she frequented while at the university.

She shared a picture of her visit on social media, expressing gratitude to Prof. Ram Singh, the Director of Delhi School of Economics, for inviting her back. Gopinath, who completed her master’s degree at the University of Delhi after obtaining her bachelor’s degree from Lady Shri Ram College, also interacted with students and engaged in a discussion with NK Singh, Chairman of 15th Finance Commission of India.

She later shared insights from the event on social media platform X. While in India, Gopinath met with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and commended the government’s policy continuity in fiscal consolidation.

She also highlighted India’s impressive economic growth, stating that the country has been the fastest-growing major economy in the world over the past decade. She pointed out that India’s growth has been more capital-intensive but has created numerous job opportunities.
