Top Court Expresses Deep Concern About Doctors’ Safety in Kolkata Rape Murder Case at RG Kar Hospital

A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will hear the matter today. The case, being investigated by the CBI, has raised multiple issues including the sanctity of evidence, rule of law, safety of healthcare professionals, and the broader issue of women’s security in the workplace.

The ruling Trinamool Congress is under pressure, especially from women who constitute a significant part of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s support base. The Chief Justice of India expressed the significance of the case by saying, “We are taking sou motu cognizance because it’s not just a matter of a horrific murder that took place in the Kolkata hospital.

It deals with the issue of systemic safety of doctors across India. We are deeply concerned about the absence of safe conditions of work for young doctors.”
