The Significance of DNA Report in Kolkata Rape-Murder Case

A number of theories have surfaced online in an effort to explain the brutal attack on the doctor. One theory suggested that there were multiple perpetrators involved in the crime. However, at present, Sanjoy Roy, a hospital volunteer, is the sole accused in the case.

He was apprehended after being captured on hospital CCTV entering the emergency building at around 4 am, the same location where the doctor’s body was later discovered. Additionally, a Bluetooth headset linking to his phone was found near the victim. Awaiting the results of the DNA report, it remains to be seen whether one or multiple individuals were involved in the crime.

If the DNA testing only reveals Roy’s genetic material, it will likely exclude the involvement of other assailants. However, the results of Roy’s psychological evaluation and polygraph test will play a significant role in the investigation, even though they may not be admissible in court. Following the trainee doctor’s autopsy, social media was inundated with rumors of severe injuries and allegations of gang rape, including claims of 150 mg of semen found in the victim’s body.

These assertions were denied by Kolkata Police chief Vineet Goyal, who expressed concern over the circulation of misinformation and attempts to sow confusion. The DNA samples, as well as Roy’s psychological evaluation and polygraph test, are currently being processed at the CBI’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) lab, with findings expected soon.
