Father of Prime Suspect Dies in False NCC Camp Sexual Abuse Case admin, August 23, 2024 The police have reported that the accused’s father, Ashokumar, passed away after falling from his two-wheeler. The state opposition leader and BJP chief have raised concerns about protecting key suspects. The accused then died by suicide in a government hospital in Salem. Sivaraman, who was accused of sexual assault and harassment, had consumed rat poison ahead of his arrest due to family problems and died in a specialized treatment facility in Salem. The school failed to conduct background checks on a group that claimed their camp on the school campus would qualify them for an NCC unit. They also did not assign teachers to monitor the camp. Additionally, the school management did not inform the police after the girls complained of sexual offenses, and instead told the students not to take the alleged abuse seriously. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is conducting a probe to investigate if the fake trainers had committed sexual offenses in camps at other schools. Another multi-disciplinary team will identify the causes that led to these sexual offenses and recommend measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Activists argue that although Tamil Nadu has a proactive protocol for acknowledging possibilities of sexual violations in schools, the latest event has exposed the lack of a mechanism to ensure compliance by schools.
