Congress Announces First List of 9 Candidates for Jammu and Kashmir Polls admin, August 26, 2024 The Congress recently released its first list of 9 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which will be conducted in three phases. This announcement followed a seat-sharing agreement between the Congress and its ally, the National Conference (NC). According to the agreement, the NC and the Congress will contest 51 and 32 seats, respectively, for the assembly polls in the region. During a joint press conference at NC president Farooq Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar, the allies revealed that one seat each had been allocated to the CPI(M) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) after productive negotiations. Additionally, they stated that there will be a “friendly contest” on five seats of the Union territory. Following this announcement, the Congress released a list of nine candidates for the polls, with Mir standing from Dooru and Wani from Banihal. Other candidates include Surinder Singh Channi, Amanullah Mantoo, Peerzada Mohammad Syed, Shaikh Zafarullah, Nadeem Sharief, Sheikh Riyaz, and Pradeep Kumar Bhagat, who will be contesting from various seats. The first phase of the assembly elections will take place on September 18, followed by the second phase on September 25 and the third phase on October 1.
