K Kavitha released from Tihar Jail 5 months after arrest in liquor policy case admin, August 27, 2024 K Kavitha, who had been in jail since March on alleged corruption and money laundering charges in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, was granted conditional bail by the Supreme Court. The court directed her to be released on bail upon furnishing bail bonds in the sum of Rs 10 lakh in each of the cases. This decision came after the Delhi High Court had previously denied her bail in both cases. The Supreme Court criticized the fairness of the investigation conducted by the two central agencies involved in the case, expressing concern over the selective nature of the prosecution. K Kavitha’s lawyer, Mukul Rohatgi, argued that the probe against her was complete and that the charge sheet and prosecution complaint had already been filed. He also referenced a previous verdict in which bail was granted to a co-accused in the same cases. K Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from her residence in Hyderabad on March 15, and subsequently arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Tihar jail on April 11. She was released from prison after having spent five months in detention. K Kavitha
