Devendra Fadnavis Criticizes Opposition’s Pettiness Over PM’s Apology for Shivaji Statue

On Friday, Fadnavis addressed the media and criticized the opposition for only focusing on the politics of the incident involving the collapse of a 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district. He mentioned that the Prime Minister had openly apologized to all the devotees of Shivaji and condemned the opposition’s political stance on the issue. Fadnavis emphasized that they did not need the Congress’s approval.

Earlier, PM Modi had apologized during a gathering in Malvan, Palghar district, stating, “Those who consider Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as their deity and have been deeply hurt, I bow my head and apologize to them.” He emphasized the significance of their values and expressed regret for the collapse of the statue, which he had inaugurated just nine months prior in coastal Maharashtra. This incident, where the statue collapsed on August 26, has garnered significant attention due to its symbolic importance.
