AAP’s Amanatullah Khan in Money Laundering Case: Probe Agency Obtains 4-Day Custody admin, September 2, 2024 The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Amanatullah Khan from his home and sought his 10-day custody to confront him with other accused and evidence in the case. The 50-year-old MLA from the Okhla assembly seat was taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at 11.20 am following a search at his residence just after 6 am. The money laundering probe against Amanatullah Khan stems from two FIRs, one related to “irregularities” in the Delhi Wakf Board and another related to alleged possession of disproportionate assets. The ED alleged that Khan is the main accused and claimed that proceeds of crime were used and laundered to buy property, and that cash was also used. The agency accused Khan of non-cooperation and attempted to misguide them. Amanatullah Khan is among several AAP leaders who have been arrested by the federal agency in different money laundering cases, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, and former minister Satyendar Jain. Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are out of jail on bail. A purported video showed Amanatullah Khan sitting near his mother-in-law, who had recently undergone surgery. In another unconfirmed video, Khan is seen telling an ED officer that he knows they want to arrest him. Khan claimed to have fully cooperated with the ED and stated that he had sought four weeks’ time for his mother-in-law’s treatment before his arrest. The ED alleged that Amanatullah Khan acquired “huge proceeds of crime” in cash through illegal recruitment of staff in the Delhi Wakf Board and invested those to purchase immovable assets in the name of his associates. The ED had conducted raids on his premises earlier and filed a charge sheet in January, naming four people including three alleged associates of Amanatullah Khan. *This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed. * Amanatullah Khan
