Kangana Ranaut Emergency Release Date: Sensitive Content – Government Sources

The release of the movie ‘Emergency’, featuring Kangana Ranaut as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has faced delays and objections from religious and Sikh organizations. The movie was originally scheduled for release on September 6, but has been postponed multiple times due to difficulties in obtaining a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Various Sikh bodies have raised concerns about the movie’s portrayal of Sikh history and have demanded the removal of objectionable scenes that they believe could hurt religious sentiments. Kangana Ranaut has expressed frustration over the censorship and limitations faced by filmmakers, comparing it to the freedom allowed on OTT platforms.

She argued that the freedom of expression seems to apply differently to films based on historic events. Additionally, she mentioned pressure to refrain from depicting the assassination of the former prime minister by her security guards in the movie. In response to these issues, the CBFC has received legal notices from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), seeking to prevent the release of ‘Emergency’ on the grounds of misrepresentation and potential to incite communal tensions. Kangana Ranaut’s comments on policy matters, particularly her statements regarding the farmers’ protest, have drawn disapproval from the BJP, who has advised her to refrain from making such statements without authorization.
