CBI Arrest Leads to Suspension of Sandip Ghosh by Bengal Government admin, September 3, 2024 Sandip Ghosh, the former superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, was recently arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with alleged irregularities at the hospital during his tenure. Following his arrest, he has been placed in police custody for eight days, after the CBI requested custody for 10 days. Additionally, three others – vendors Biplav Singha and Suman Hazara, as well as security guard Afsar Ali – were also arrested in connection with the case. The case against Ghosh was triggered by a petition from former Deputy Superintendent Akhtar Ali, who accused Ghosh of illegal activities such as the sale of unclaimed corpses, trafficking of biomedical waste, and manipulating tenders for personal gain. Ali also alleged that students were pressured to pay a significant amount to pass exams. As a result of these allegations, Ghosh has been suspended by the Indian Medical Association. Furthermore, his appointment at the Calcutta National Medical College also faced backlash from students, who locked him out of the Principal’s office long before the Supreme Court order. The case has brought attention to a range of serious allegations and has resulted in legal and professional consequences for Ghosh and others involved. RG Kar Hospital
