PM Modi to have dinner at the opulent palace of the Sultan of Brunei on 2nd day of official visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently embarked on a historic state visit to Brunei, which marked the first bilateral trip by an Indian prime minister to the Southeast Asian nation. This visit is part of a two-nation tour that will also include Singapore. The second day of the tour saw PM Modi meeting with the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, at his official residence, the Istana Nurul Iman Palace, which is recognized as the world’s largest palace. The meeting holds significance, as the Brunei Sultan and PM Modi previously met during the 25th ASEAN Summit in November 2014 and the 2017 East Asia Summit in Manila.

PM Modi expressed his anticipation for the meetings and emphasized his intention to enhance the historical relationship between India and Brunei to new heights. The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations. During this visit, the prime minister engaged in bilateral discussions focusing on areas of cooperation, including defense, trade and investment, energy, space technology, and health. Furthermore, PM Modi also took the opportunity to interact with the Indian community in Singapore.

During his time in Brunei, PM Modi also visited the renowned Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, which is considered one of the most iconic structures in the region. Additionally, he inaugurated the new Chancery of the Indian High Commission in Brunei and interacted with local officials, scholars, and members of the Indian community.
