President Delegates Powers to Delhi Lieutenant Governor to Constitute Any Authority

The Union Home Ministry issued a notification on Tuesday, stating that the Delhi LG has the authority to appoint members to various bodies. This directive is based on article 239 of the Constitution and section 45D of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991.

The President’s directive empowers the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to exercise the powers of the President for the constitution of authorities, boards, commissions, or statutory bodies, as well as the appointment of government officers or ex officio members to such bodies. This directive is subject to the control of the President and will remain in effect until further orders.
