Tamil Actors’ Association Proposes 5-Year Ban on Sexual Offenders in Film Industry

The Kerala Police have registered FIRs against popular Malayalam actors and directors. This action follows a resolution by the Gender Sensitisation and Internal Committee to provide legal help to victims of sexual harassment in the Tamil film industry.

According to the resolution, any complaint of sexual harassment or related offences made by a woman will be thoroughly investigated. If found to be true, a recommendation will be made to ban the perpetrators from the film industry for five years.

The resolution outlines a process where a warning will be issued to alleged preparators, followed by appropriate action. Victims can register their complaints with the actors’ body through a dedicated phone number and email ID.

The Nadigar Sangam has expressed support for lodging complaints against content in YouTube channels. The actors’ body advised victims to approach the Committee before talking to the media about their complaints.

After the Hema Committee report revealed sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry, several complaints have been lodged against leading film personalities. FIRs have been registered against popular Malayalam actors and directors by the Kerala Police.

Responding to similar allegations in the neighboring state, the Nadigar Sangam held a meeting of its Gender Sensitisation and Internal Committee. Nadigar Sangam General Secretary Vishal assured that the Committee would ensure justice for women with complaints of sexual abuse.
