Pentagon Informs Congress of Plan to Sell Anti-Submarine Sonobuoys to India

India recently announced the acquisition of effective and affordable anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities. The move is aimed at enhancing India’s capacity to conduct ASW operations and will involve the use of MH-60R helicopters. The sale is subject to a 30-day review by Congress as per the Arms Export Control Act.

The proposed sale includes AN/SSQ-53O High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys, AN/SSQ-62F HAASW sonobuoys, and AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys, with an estimated total cost of USD 52.8 million. This development is expected to improve India’s ability to meet current and future threats in the realm of ASW operations. The acquisition is a significant step forward in enhancing India’s defense capabilities and preparedness.
