India Successfully Tests Versatile Light Tank Zorawar in Recent Trials admin, September 13, 2024 The Indian Army is planning to deploy over 350 light tanks, with a focus on the mountainous border areas. These tanks have shown exceptional performance during field trials, particularly in desert terrain. The Indian light Tank, Zorawar, has been developed as a highly versatile platform capable of deployment in high-altitude areas, with the aim of countering China’s deployment of similar tank categories. Zorawar has been successfully developed by the Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. The involvement of numerous Indian industries, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), in the development of various sub-systems has showcased the strength of indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities within the country. The Indian Army’s plan to procure these light tanks is part of a broader effort to enhance its combat capabilities since the Galwan Valley clashes in eastern Ladakh. The Army has already deployed heavy tanks and infantry combat vehicles in eastern Ladakh, as well as artillery units equipped with various systems along the frontier with China. This move comes as the Indian and Chinese militaries have been locked in a standoff since May 2020, with a full resolution of the border row yet to be achieved despite disengagement from some friction points. *(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed. )* Indian Light Tank Zorawar
