Baba Ramdev begs Uttarakhand officer as Supreme Court slams Patanjali ads for being misleading.

Baba Ramdev Controversy:

The Supreme Court has rejected Patanjali’s apology affidavits. A bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, upset by what it sees as insincere apologies from the company and its founders, zeroed in on Dr. Mithilesh Kumar, the Joint Director of the state’s Food and Drug Administration, who at one point begged for mercy. The court was dissatisfied and questioned the actions taken by the Uttarakhand FDA, dismissing their arguments. The court referred to a 1954 act that does not provide for warnings or compounding of the offense.

The court further criticized the officer’s actions and emphasized the seriousness of the situation. The Supreme Court’s scrutiny of the state drug authority comes after Patanjali Ayurved’s co-founders were previously criticized for their “absolute defiance” of the highest court. Justices Kohli and Amanullah also posed serious questions to the center’s AYUSH Ministry, demanding to know why it had not taken action against the company after its “shocking” ads that belittled contemporary medicine. The court was presiding over a contempt case against Patanjali over the publication of advertisements making false claims about its products and their medical efficacy.

Despite a directive to stop all electronic and print ads giving misleading information, the court claimed that ads making such claims continued to be published.
