Karnataka Lokayukta instructs DK Shivakumar to submit documents in assets case. admin, April 10, 2024 DK Shivakumar has been asked by the Karnataka Lokayukta to submit documents in a disproportionate assets case currently under investigation. The case was transferred to the Lokayukta after the Siddaraimah government withdrew the consent for investigation by the Central agency, which had been issued by the earlier BJP government. The notice to Mr. Shivakumar urged him to provide the same information and documents that he had previously submitted during the CBI investigation. Allegations have been made against Mr. Shivakumar of amassing assets worth Rs 74.93 crore disproportionate to his income. Mr. Shivakumar has denied any wrongdoing and vowed to fight the case through legal means. He has accused the BJP of harassing him by misusing central agencies. The Siddaramaiah government withdrew consent for the investigation, citing improper procedure after coming to power. The CBI has challenged this retraction in the High Court. Mr. Shivakumar has stated that the advocate general advised him that his case should not have been given to the CBI, and after obtaining the record through a Right to Information request, the government withdrew permission and transferred the case to the Lokayukta. Last month, the Supreme Court dismissed a money laundering case against Mr. Shivakumar that had been filed in 2018, which was linked to allegations of tax evasion and hawala transactions worth crores.
