BJP’s Manifesto for Sikkim Guarantees Protection of People’s Rights admin, April 11, 2024 JP Nadda, the national president of the BJP, recently announced the party’s big political push in Sikkim, coinciding with a keenly contested assembly election and the Lok Sabha polls. The party unveiled its manifesto, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding Article 371F of the Constitution and ensuring the protection of Sikkimese people’s rights. Additionally, the BJP promised to advocate for the inclusion of Bhutia, Lepcha, and Limbu languages in the Indian constitution’s Eight Schedule. Having called off its alliance with the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) in March, the BJP is now contesting 14 out of the state’s 32 assembly seats independently. JP Nadda highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the northeast, pledging last-mile delivery and connectivity in the region, urging voters to reject regional parties and embrace the BJP for comprehensive development. The BJP chief emphasized the transformation witnessed in the northeast under BJP rule, applauding the region’s shift from conflict to peace and prosperity. Addressing misconceptions about the party’s stance towards Christianity, Nadda referenced the BJP’s governance in Nagaland, a predominantly Christian state. The upcoming assembly election, which includes the parliamentary election, is set to take place on April 19. The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has declared candidates for all seats, while the Sikkim Democratic Front has declared 26 candidates for the assembly polls. Additionally, two-time Lok Sabha MP Prem Das Rai has been fielded for Sikkim’s sole Lok Sabha seat. Sikkim Politics
