India Unveils World’s Biggest Renewable Energy Park – 5 Times Bigger Than Paris admin, April 11, 2024 Khavda is the world’s largest renewable energy park, utilizing both solar and wind energy. The location, initially barren and lacking vegetation due to highly saline soil, was identified as an ideal site due to its high solar radiation and strong wind speeds. Situated 18 km from the airstrip, the park covers 538 square kilometers, making it five times the size of Paris. The Adani Group, through its subsidiary Adani Green Energy Ltd, plans to invest approximately 1.5 lakh crore rupees to generate 30 gigawatts of clean electricity at Khavda in Gujarat’s Kutch. The company has commissioned 2 gigawatts of capacity at the site and aims to add 4 gigawatts in the current fiscal year and 5 gigawatts annually thereafter. The airstrip, used to transport group executives, is located 80 km from the nearest habitable area and operates with the assistance of the air traffic controller at Bhuj, 160 km away. The site comes with its own set of challenges, including dust storms and a lack of communication and transport infrastructure. The outer perimeter of the energy park is just one km from the international border with Pakistan, with a one-km buffer zone manned by the Border Security Force (BSF). The land, leased by the government to the Adani Group for 40 years, has undergone extensive studies and development efforts before construction commenced in 2022. The comprehensive infrastructure development includes road construction, drainage establishment, desalination, and reverse osmosis plants, optical fiber cable installation, and concrete batching plants. The region is set to become a major contributor to India’s renewable energy goals, with plans to generate 30 gigawatts of solar and 4 gigawatts of wind capacity at Khavda. Khavda Renewable Energy Park
