Israel Affirms Intention to Retaliate Against Iran at the Appropriate Time: 10 Key Points

Iran recently launched over 300 missiles and drones at Israel. Most of these were intercepted. Iran stated that the attack was in response to the destruction of its consulate building in Damascus, which is widely attributed to Israel.

In response, Israel’s representative to the United Nations called for imposing sanctions on Iran. The G7 leaders also expressed readiness to take further measures in response to what they deemed as “destabilizing initiatives”. Iran has warned Israel against responding militarily, declaring the matter concluded but threatening a severe response to any future Israeli mistake.

President Joe Biden informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. would not provide military backing for any retaliatory actions against Iran. Biden also stated that American forces assisted Israel in intercepting the majority of the drones and missiles launched by Iran and indicated his intention to strategize a diplomatic reaction with other G7 leaders. Israel’s military announced the formation of a coalition with the United States, Britain, France, and other allies to respond to Iran’s unprecedented attack.

Before the attack, Iran had seized a vessel linked to Israel in the Gulf, escalating tensions throughout the region. India called for de-escalation and emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the escalating tensions. The Indian Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, held a discussion with his Israeli counterpart and expressed India’s concerns regarding the situation.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the international community to avoid further escalation into conflict, emphasizing that neither the region nor the world can afford more war.
