The former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. After this, his close aide Champai Soren, backed by MLAs from JMM, the Congress, and other allies, took the oath as the Chief Minister.

Hemant Soren addressed the Assembly and expressed his support for Champai Soren, stating that he has the full backing of the JMM-led alliance. He criticized the BJP-led central government, referring to his arrest as a “dark chapter” in the country’s democracy.

He also alleged the involvement of the Governor’s office in the events leading to his arrest, stating that it was a well-planned conspiracy. Hemant Soren raised concerns about atrocities against backward sections and invoked Dalit icon BR Ambedkar.

He criticized the ruling dispensation’s attitude towards tribal communities and responded to comments about his background and lifestyle. He asserted that despite the challenges, he has not accepted defeat and accused the central agencies of targeting tribals and innocents.

Mr. Soren also challenged the BJP to provide proof that the disputed 8.5-acre plot is registered in his name, expressing his readiness to quit politics if they could do so. He vowed to respond to every conspiracy at the right time and criticized BJP leaders from Jharkhand for bowing before those with a feudal mindset.

Hemant Soren expressed the belief that obstacles would be created to prevent him from completing his five-year term, alleging that the BJP does not want tribal communities to rise or hold significant positions in society, and aims to hinder his tenure as Chief Minister.
