Tragic Accident: Kolkata-Bound Bus Plunges Off Bridge in Odisha, Resulting in 5 Deaths and Multiple Injuries

Five people, including a woman, died and several others were injured after a Kolkata-bound bus fell from a bridge in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday evening, according to police reports. The accident occurred around 9 pm on Barabati bridge on National Highway-16 while the bus, carrying 40 passengers, was traveling from Puri to Kolkata.

The Superintendent of Police in Jajpur, along with a team of doctors and other district administration officials, are present at the accident site to oversee the rescue efforts. The fire personnel used gas cutters to extract the injured.

In response to the tragic event, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh for each family who lost a loved one.
