Virat Kohli Seeks Clarity on T20 World Cup, BCCI’s Response Includes Role Change Twist

The BCCI selection committee is considering Virat Kohli as an opener alongside Rohit Sharma. Kohli has been performing well as an opener for his IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has a strike-rate of 161 as an opening batter in T20I cricket and has been the top-scoring batter at present in the IPL 2024.

His inclusion as an opener may limit the space for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Indian team. The debate over Kohli’s strike-rate and Hardik Pandya’s performance in the IPL has intensified. Kohli’s overall T20I strike-rate is 138, and his only T20I hundred has come as an opener.

Pandya’s below-par batting and sporadic bowling spells have left much to be desired. As there is still time before the BCCI selection committee decides on the roster for the T20 World Cup, Jaiswal would aim to improve his form and reaffirm his credentials for the opening spot in the team.
