In recent years, the competition for the “world’s best airport” has been dominated by Doha’s Hamad International and Singapore Changi. However, in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024, Singapore was edged out of the top spot by its Middle Eastern rival, Hamad International, ending Singapore’s 12-time winning streak. Seoul Incheon secured the third-place position and was also recognized as the most family-friendly airport in 2024, while Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports claimed the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. US airports did not feature near the top of the rankings, with Seattle-Tacoma being the highest-ranked at 24th place, slipping six spots from the previous year. European airports put on a strong showing, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich, and Istanbul maintaining positions in the top 10. Some other notable changes in rankings included New York’s JFK falling five places to 93rd and LaGuardia rising from 57 to 33, Melbourne remaining the top-ranked Australian airport at 19th place, London Heathrow climbing one spot to 21st, and Gatwick moving up seven spots to 48. Japan’s Okinawa experienced a significant improvement, jumping from 199th to 91st position.
