2 Men of Indian Descent Among 6 Arrested in Canada’s Largest Gold and Cash Robbery admin, April 18, 2024 Two Indian-origin men are among the six individuals arrested in Canada in connection with a $22.5 million gold and cash heist. The Peel Regional Police (PRP) announced that the Canadian authorities have also issued warrants for three more persons in this case. The theft occurred after the gold and currency arrived on an Air Canada flight from Zurich, Switzerland. It is alleged that at least two former Air Canada employees were involved in the audacious theft. One of them is currently in custody, while an arrest warrant has been issued for the other. The individuals arrested include Parmpal Sidhu, Amit Jalota, Ammad Chaudhary, Ali Raza, and Prasath Paramalingam. Another individual, Durante King-Mclean, is currently in custody in the United States on firearms trafficking-related charges. The arrests were the result of a lengthy investigation into the crime, which had been reported the previous year. The police have issued Canada-wide warrants for three additional individuals implicated in the theft. Peel Regional Police described the theft as the single-largest gold heist in Canadian history and stated that two individuals who worked for Air Canada played a pivotal role in carrying it out. The investigation has been conducted collaboratively with international law enforcement agencies, including the Philadelphia Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). In their statement, the police mentioned that during the investigation, they seized one kilogram of gold, believed to be from the theft, along with smelting equipment and approximately $434,000 Canadian currency. PRP has identified and charged or issued warrants for a total of nine individuals with over 19 charges. Nishan Duraiappah, the Peel Regional Police Chief, emphasized that the investigation remains a priority and that they are working closely with national and international law enforcement partners to bring those responsible to justice.
