2 Indian-Origin Men Arrested in Canada’s Largest Gold and Cash Robbery admin, April 18, 2024 Two Indian-origin men have been arrested in Canada in connection with a $22.5 million gold and cash heist. The Peel Regional Police (PRP) announced that warrants have been issued for three additional individuals. The theft occurred when gold and currency arrived on an Air Canada flight from Zurich, Switzerland. It is alleged that at least two former Air Canada employees were involved in the theft. The individuals arrested include Parmpal Sidhu and Amit Jalota, both of Indian origin, as well as Ammad Chaudhary, Ali Raza, and Prasath Paramalingam. Another individual, Durante King-Mclean, is in custody in the United States. The investigation was initiated after the crime was reported last year. While the police have arrested some individuals, warrants have been issued for others, including Simran Preet Panesar, Archit Grover, and Arsalan Chaudhary. Air Canada confirmed the employment of Parmpal Sidhu and Simran Panesar, with one leaving the company prior to the arrests and the other being suspended. The lead investigator called the theft the largest gold heist in Canadian history, with involvement from individuals inside Air Canada. The cargo was reported missing on April 18, leading to a collaborative investigation by local and international law enforcement. The investigation has resulted in the seizure of gold, smelting equipment, and Canadian currency, as well as the arrest of several individuals. Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah emphasized that the investigation is a priority and that authorities are working closely with international partners to hold those responsible accountable.
