Bihar Woman, 28, Dies During Birth Control Surgery in Samastipur: No Doctor Present admin, April 21, 2024 The police are currently investigating an incident that took place in Musrigharari, a small town in Samastipur district about 80 km from the state capital of Patna. It involves the death of a woman, Babita Devi, who was brought to Anisha healthcare centre for a sterilization surgery by her relatives. The healthcare centre, located on the first floor of a two-storey building, allegedly told the family that no doctor was available and proceeded to have a compounder conduct the surgery. Babita Devi was brought to the centre at 9 am, administered saline water, and the procedure began around 11 am. An hour later, she was rushed to a hospital in Mohanpur, about 10 km away. Despite not being informed about her condition, the family discovered that Babita had passed away and voiced their protest at the healthcare centre. The family accused the staff of risking patients’ lives by allowing junior staff, known as compounders, to perform medical procedures without any doctors present. In response to Babita’s death, the relatives brought her body back to the Anisha healthcare centre and staged a protest. Heartbreaking visuals captured an elderly relative calling out to the deceased woman. The family has called for legal action against the staff, who are currently on the run, with demands for a police case to be filed against each of them. Addressing the situation, the local police station in-charge Faizul Ansari reassured that they are investigating the matter and promised to take action against those responsible.
