Mittal had a long history of criminal activity, having been named in over 150 theft cases in Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Rajasthan, and having been incarcerated more than 90 times. A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, stated that Mittal was directly involved in over 1,000 cases of theft, cheating, impersonation, and forgery throughout his lifetime. According to police sources, Mittal’s criminal activities began in 1964 with a case of cheating and persisted from there. Recollections from a senior officer of the Delhi police shed light on Mittal’s audacious acts, such as stealing cars from the Jhajjar court parking lot for personal use and posing as a judge in Jhajjar to issue orders for the release of offenders serving lengthy sentences. The officer revealed that Mittal was well educated, having achieved a first-class BSc from Rohtak and later earning an LLB from Rajasthan. Despite his education, Mittal engaged in criminal activities, including stealing cars for personal enjoyment, forging documents, and securing a position as a station master, which he held from 1968 to 1974. His death followed a period of illness culminating in a cardiac arrest. At the age of 77, Mittal was arrested for stealing a car in Rani Bagh, marking his 95th arrest.
