Congress’ Big CAA Announcement by P Chidambaram Amid Criticism from Pinarayi Vijayan for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram has called on the public to vote the INDIA bloc into power in Delhi. He stated that the Congress party’s objective is to revoke the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), despite it not being explicitly stated in their manifesto.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPI(M) have criticized the Congress for not addressing the CAA in their manifesto. Chidambaram countered this criticism by claiming the omission was due to space constraints in the manifesto, reassured that the CAA would be repealed in its entirety.

He emphasized that the CAA will be abolished, not amended, during the first parliamentary session under the INDIA Bloc’s government. He refuted Vijayan’s claims by pointing out that Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has spoken against the CAA in Parliament.

Regarding the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram temple and its potential impact on the elections, Chidambaram expressed his hope that it would not play a role, stating that the construction of the temple fulfills public demand and should not influence politics or election outcomes. Chidambaram also criticized Vijayan, urging him to view the current election as a national affair and highlighting the Congress’ position as the optimal choice for combating the BJP and forming a national government.

He urged voters to empower the INDIA bloc in Delhi, emphasizing that polling for the Lok Sabha election in Kerala will take place on April 26, with nationwide results announced on June 4.
