Karthik, who is set to turn 39 by the start of the World Cup on June 1, was part of the last T20I World Cup in Australia in 2022. This was also his last appearance for Team India. Since then, he has transitioned to an off-the-field cricket expert, engaging in commentary roles.

Returning to the IPL this season, his batting has reached new heights, showcasing remarkable power-hitting with a strike rate exceeding 205. Expressing his strong desire to represent India in the upcoming T20 World Cup, Karthik emphasized his keenness for this opportunity and conveyed that it holds the utmost importance in his life. As a contender for the wicketkeeper slot, he acknowledged the intense competition for this position, noting that the Team India leadership, including Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar, holds the responsibility of selecting the best team for the World Cup.

Karthik revealed his approach of analyzing bowlers’ patterns to enhance his batting skills and to strategize his shots as well as visualizing scenarios during practice. He acknowledged the need to understand his batting strengths, highlighting that he is not someone like Russell or Pollard who can rely solely on power-hitting for boundaries.
