During a recent live broadcast, Doordarshan anchor Lopamudra Sinha blacked out. The incident occurred amid intense heat, as her blood pressure suddenly dropped while she was reading heatwave updates on air. In a video shared on her Facebook page, Sinha explained that the teleprompter faded away, and she eventually collapsed on her chair due to the extreme heat and a sudden drop in blood pressure. Sinha mentioned that she had been feeling unwell and parched before the morning broadcast, attributing the fainting spell to the intense heat and a malfunction in the cooling system.

Despite her usual practice of not keeping a water bottle with her during broadcasts, she felt the need to ask for water during this particular broadcast. She noted that she fainted after drinking the water, struggling to complete the broadcast while feeling unwell. A key takeaway from this incident is the importance of staying hydrated to prevent heat illness, even when indoors. Sinha was aided by some colleagues who splashed water on her face after she fainted.

She also apologized to her channel for the mishap and advised viewers to take care of themselves in the scorching heat. This incident occurred amidst an ongoing heatwave affecting parts of Odisha, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal, marking the second heatwave spell of the month. The first spell had impacted Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. Some areas recorded temperatures significantly above normal, meeting the threshold for a heatwave.
