Sunil Gavaskar’s Stern Message About High-Scoring IPL Games Sparks Debate in Cricket Community

The IPL 2021 season has witnessed five instances of teams surpassing the 250-run mark in just 35 matches. Of these totals, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) has achieved three, setting a new record for the highest IPL total not once, but twice.

Following these high-scoring matches, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has called for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider increasing the length of the boundary. He suggested pushing the ropes and advertisement boards back to create a larger boundary, thereby reducing the frequency of sixes and providing a better balance between bat and ball.

Gavaskar emphasized that he does not advocate for changes to cricket bats, as they are currently within regulations. However, he stressed the need to address the boundary size, suggesting that extending it by a few meters could make a significant difference.

After a recent match, Gavaskar expressed his concern over the current trend in T20 cricket, likening it to a scenario where players swing their bats relentlessly, which may lead to an exciting spectacle initially but can become predictable and less enjoyable over time.
