Suresh Raina Withdraws from IPL 2020 After Family Tragedy: “Gangsters Killed Entire Family

During the Coronavirus pandemic, Raina traveled with the other players to the country, but decided to withdraw before the start of the season, citing personal reasons and concerns about the COVID-19 bio-bubble arrangements. This led to various theories about his decision, including a rumor that he left the bio-bubble because he was denied a hotel room with a balcony.

Addressing these rumors, Raina revealed that he withdrew from the tournament to spend time with his father and other relatives after several of his family members were tragically killed in Punjab. He explained, “There was bereavement in the family, I went to Punjab.

In my uncle’s family, there were deaths. A group of gangsters killed the entire family, my grandmother was also there.

It happened in Pathankot. So I went there.

But there was a bio-bubble in the IPL, where you couldn’t return. My father was very upset.

When the gang did what they did, my entire family was in stress.” Raina also mentioned that the situation back home was chaotic and the ongoing pandemic made it even worse.

He emphasized the importance of family, saying, “Family comes first. Then I returned, we played the 2021 season.

We won the trophy. But the previous year, the family was in chaos.

They were all in depression already due to Covid-19 and then this happened. I thought I should go home and be with my family.”

This season turned out to be Raina’s last, as he later announced his retirement from all formats of the game.
