Chennai MGM Healthcare Performs Life-Saving Heart Surgery on Pakistani Girl Born in India.

Ayesha Rashan, 19, recently underwent a successful heart transplant in Chennai, India. The procedure was performed free of charge by the city-based Aishwaryan Trust in conjunction with the hospital, as her family would not have been able to afford it otherwise.

Ayesha expressed gratitude to the doctors, hospital and medical trust for the successful operation, with her mother also extending her thanks. Ayesha’s condition is currently stable, and she is expected to return to Pakistan soon.

She had been admitted with severe heart dysfunction and had to be put on ECMO, a form of life support for those with life-threatening cardiac or pulmonary issues. Following a leak in her heart pump valve, she required a full heart transplant, a procedure that can cost over Rs 35 lakh.

Fortunately, the doctors and trust covered the expenses, and Ayesha successfully received a donor heart from Delhi. The doctors emphasized the significance of Ayesha’s case in highlighting Chennai’s reputation as a leader in organ donation and transplant surgery.

They also called for better policies to ensure that viable donated organs are not wasted due to the high cost of transplant surgery, currently unaffordable for many in India. The success of Ayesha’s transplant stands as a testament to proactive initiatives in Tamil Nadu that have led to the state’s prominence in organ donation and transplants.
